TODAY, October 16, 2017, Senator Cory Booker endorsed Ben Jealous, former President & CEO of the NAACP, for governor of Maryland. Jealous and Booker will attend a campaign meet and greet in Prince George’s County this Thursday at 5pm at Bus Boys and Poets in Hyattsville Maryland.
This is the twelfth endorsement Jealous has received from a progressive organization or individual and comes as he continues his Courage to Lead tour traveling the state, meeting with residents and announcing support from several individuals and organizations.
Previous endorsements have come from: Maryland Working Families, Maryland Postal Workers Union, Our Revolution, Senator Bernie Sanders, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, National Nurses United, Friends of the Earth Action, Environmentalist Bill McKibben, Former Obama Administration Official and activist Van Jones, SEIU, and Executive Director of the National LGBTQ Task Force, Rea Carey*.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Senator Booker called Jealous:
“one of the most compelling voices of the X Generation” and said he is “all in” to do whatever Jealous needs to help him win the nomination and unseat Governor Hogan. Jealous is “a proven leader who brings an authentic voice,” continued Booker, who described himself as a “raving fan.”
In response to this endorsement, Jealous said:
“I’m grateful to receive Senator Booker’s support as we continue building a movement to get Maryland back to doing big things again,” Jealous said. “Senator Booker is a great friend and a fierce advocate for working families. I look forward to having him join me on the trail as we work to continue building a broad diverse coalition to return Maryland’s schools back to number one, guarantee a living wage of $15 per hour, end mass incarceration, make college tuition free and stop rising healthcare premiums with a Medicare For All system.”
