Former National President & CEO of the NAACP Will Be Joined By Godbrother and Comedian Dave Chappelle To Mobilize Voters In Prince George’s County and Montgomery County
Silver Spring — TODAY, Wednesday October 3, 2018, Ben Jealous, former National President & CEO of the NAACP, announced campaign events with famed comedian Dave Chappelle on Saturday, October 6th in Prince George’s County and Montgomery County. At these rallies, Jealous and Chappelle will encourage early voting which begins later this month, as well as discuss Jealous’ platform which includes fully funding education, Medicare-For-All and investing in small businesses to boost Maryland’s lagging economy.
Jealous is the first political endorsement and candidate Chappelle has ever campaigned for. Chappelle’s visit kickoffs a series of high profile surrogates who will campaign for Jealous in the coming weeks in support of Democratic efforts to mobilize more than 1 million voters to the polls.
“When Democrats vote, we win,” said Jealous. “I’m honored to have Dave join me during this final stretch of the campaign, to build upon our efforts to mobilize more than 1 million Democrats to the polls around fully funding education, raising teacher pay, Medicare-For-All and growing our economy again. Dave and I also share a passion for reforming our outdated and ineffective criminal justice system, something I will work tirelessly to achieve as governor.”
More than 2 million Marylanders are expected to vote in this year’s election, meaning that a million votes will be needed to secure victory, something no Republican candidate for governor has ever achieved. Jealous has set a goal of mobilizing 1 million Democrats to the polls. To support these efforts, the coordinated campaign has already hired 50 organizers, more than were on the ground in 2014. Additionally 23 offices have been opened across the state.
